INTERVIEWS WITH ARCHITECTS
To kick off out "Interviews with Architects" series, we talked to Prisca Weems, the principal architect from FutureProof. At her studio, we had a casual discussion about green building in New Orleans, the genius design of historic homes and how the city is moving towards a greener future.

Say NO! to Demo. Deconstruct instead.

Deconstruction is a green alternative to demolition. To deconstruct a structure is to systematically dismantle that structure with the intent of extracting a maximum level of reusable building materials. Work is done mostly by hand, and salvageable materials are sold affordably on the open market for reuse. Our friends at the New Orleans branch of Mercy Corps have provided us with some information about and benefits of deconstruction as well as a list of local resources.

URBANBUILD @ 1930 Dumaine
Tulane's URBANbuild is an urban design and construction program launched by the School of Architecture in 2005. Students engaged in URBANbuild studios are assigned to neighborhoods throughout the city to develop creative and sustainable urban design strategies, innovative designs for new housing, historic property inventories, and proposals for site-specific urban interventions and large-scale mixed use urban environments.
